Why people book with us

Twenty years on this island. We rent the way we would want to rent.

We have been living and working on Koh Tao for more than 20 years. We know these roads, we know what a rental should feel like, and we know the tricks other shops pull — so we simply do not pull them.

The bike arrives clean and serviced, the price you were quoted is the price you pay, and the handover is a plain-English agreement that takes two minutes. That is the whole system.

Book on WhatsApp

Damage, photographed

We walk around the bike with you and take dated photos at handover and at return. Both of us get a copy.

Price agreed in writing

Your rate and your dates go in the WhatsApp chat before the bike arrives. That message is the contract.

Steps from the pier

We are right by Mae Haad pier. Step off the ferry, pick up your bike, and ride to your accommodation instead of paying for a taxi.

How it works

Booked in a minute. Riding in ten.

Ride safe

What to know before you turn the key.

Koh Tao is small but the roads are steep, sandy in places and busy at night. None of this is meant to scare you off — most people ride here for a week without a single problem. A few honest facts, though, before you go:

  • Bring a motorcycle licence. Without a valid one, your travel insurance will not pay out if something happens. This is the part people find out too late.
  • Helmet, always. It is the law here, it is checked, and it is the only thing between you and the road.
  • Never after drinks. Not one. Songthaew taxis run late and cost ฿100–200 a hop.
  • The steep bits are real. The roads down to Hin Wong, Tanote and Ao Leuk are no place for a 125 with two people on it. Take the ADV, or take a taxi.
  • Cover your skin. Shorts and flip flops are how a small slide becomes a long recovery. Closed shoes if you have them.

Questions

Everything people ask us.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Koh Tao?

At Buddha Bikes: Honda Click ฿300 a day, Honda PCX 160 ฿400 a day, and our brand-new Honda ADV ฿500 a day. Helmets, a phone mount and a rain poncho are included, delivery anywhere on the island is free, and fuel is separate — about ฿100 for a full tank.

Where can I rent a scooter safely in Koh Tao?

Choose a shop that photographs the bike with you at handover, puts the price in writing, and hands you a proper agreement — that is exactly how we work. We have been on the island for more than 20 years, our bikes are serviced weekly, and the rate we quote on WhatsApp is the rate you pay.

Do I need a licence to rent a scooter on Koh Tao?

Legally, yes — you need a motorcycle licence, or an international driving permit with the motorcycle category on it. Plenty of shops on the island will rent to you without one. We would rather be straight with you: riding without a valid licence is illegal, and more importantly it means your travel insurance will not cover you if you have an accident.

How much is fuel?

Fuel is not included in the daily rate. A full tank on a 125cc scooter costs roughly ฿100 and will easily last you several days of normal island riding. There are proper petrol stations near Mae Haad, and roadside bottle stalls everywhere else.

What happens if I scratch or damage the bike?

We photograph the bike together at handover and at return, so we both know exactly what changed. Small cosmetic scratches from normal use are on us — we do not charge for those. Real damage is charged at the actual cost of the repair, and we show you the bill. No invented fees.

Can you deliver to the ferry pier?

Yes, and it is free. Send us your ferry arrival time and we will be at Mae Haad pier waiting. It is the easiest way to start — you step off the boat and ride straight to where you are staying.

Is the free bike with a diving course real?

Yes. Book your Open Water course with Go Diving Koh Tao and a 3-day Buddha Bikes scooter rental is included. Check them out at @godiving.kohtao on Instagram, or message us and we will introduce you.

Can I extend my rental?

Just message us on WhatsApp and keep the bike — we add the extra days at the same daily rate. No need to bring it back in between.

Is it safe to drive a scooter in the Koh Tao hills?

It is fine if you ride sensibly and it goes badly if you do not. Wear a helmet, stay off the bike after drinks, slow right down on the steep coastal roads, and do not try to learn to ride a scooter for the first time on the hill down to Tanote. Most accidents here come down to one of those four things.

Let's get you on a bike.

Tell us your dates and where you are staying. We usually reply within minutes, and we can have a bike with you the same day.
